It’s the mad season

2 Jan

I always forget how crazy January is in the junking business…at least around these parts. And even though it just started December 21, I think winter officially ends on New Year’s Day here in Texas.  As soon as the Christmas decorations are boxed up, we Texans are ready to hit the spring cleaning and s.h.o.p. for spring!

I had heard rumors that New Year’s Eve —  in Llano and in San Antonio —  was a crazy shop day.  And according to my mom, the whole of Whimseys was in disarray. She and my sister spent the better part of New Year’s Day doing a re-set in Llano. {We sell those way cool rubber cowboy boots in Llano, and when Mom was straightening them, she discovered the single short pair we have left actually was no pair at all. One size eight. One size nine. Guess we can use the odd boots as planters, come spring! Oh, wait! It is spring!!}

The state of our space in San Antonio was no different when I visited today. I didn’t have time — or merch — to do an entire re-set, but I did manage to pick up the final messes of 2010.  And while I was in the shop, two displays in my space were completely dismantled so customers could get to the linens that were on the very bottom of the displays.  {Luckily I was around to straighten up.}

I’m no economist, but based on today, I’d say this is going to be a strong year for the junking business.  And the best part? People seemed so happy today. Shoppers AND dealers. {And on a side note: If you sell seasonal merchandise, get your Valentine stuff out now! I started stocking for Valentine’s Day last week, and it’s already selling.}

So here’s to a fun AND successful year!  Think of all that good junk out there just waiting to be picked…I can’t wait!*

*Really. In fact, I just junked on Etsy. Oh,my. Twenty-four hour access to quality yum. That’s what I’M talkin’ about!

    YEAH! Yesterday, when I got to the shop, it was hopping, and there were—no lie—8 people in my booth! I have a good feeling about this year too!
